Director of Safety & Risk Management
Mr. Swindle is responsible for all aspects of Safety & Risk Management. He is actively involved in the identification and appraisal of all accident and loss producing conditions and practices to develop written programs/policies in accordance with Local, State and Federal regulations to control them. Mr. Swindle also directs our driver monitoring program through the use of DriveCam video systems as well as manages our Drug Free Workplace Program and NEMS Training Academy course coordinator.
Mr. Swindle is a paramedic and has been in EMS since 1987. He began his career with NEMS in 1992. He has been involved in safety and risk management since 1995.

Safety/Risk Management Summary
NorthStar EMS’s Safety/Risk Management Department is committed to promoting a culture of safety. Our premise is that safety is everyone’s responsibility and as such we have an obligation to educate and hold accountable our Team Members to take care of and watch out for each other’s well-being! This is accomplished by meeting the following objectives.
Identify safety issues that affect NorthStar EMS’ overall success/failure. Identified issues will become our strategic indicators that will be monitored on a monthly basis (KPIs).
The safety department will measure/monitor actual performance as compared to expected monthly results.
Negative KPI results will be reviewed to determine specific root causes.
Action plans will be developed that identify the specific problem and root causes. Steps to correct these root causes will be developed and assigned to key personnel to ensure the plan is implemented. Success of the plan will be assessed with ongoing KPI reporting.
Foster a culture of safety.
Develop an employee based safety group.
Provide educational opportunities regarding safety and safe working practices during orientation and on an annual basis.
